3D Snowman

Since Christmas is coming, I got to get some idea for our playgroup and found this online at www.kidssoup.com

Materials: Blue paper, black color paper, orange color paper, tissue paper or cotton balls, glue

Method:
1. Draw a snowman onto the blue paper
2. Apply glue onto the snowman and paste bits of tissue paper (or cotton ball) onto snowman.
3. Using black paper, cut out shapes of eyes, button, and mouth.
4. Using orange paper, cut out shape of a sharp nose.
5. Decorate the snow flake falling with cotton balls.

Dot Picture

In contrary to the previous cotton bud art, this is a simpler way to do dot art.

Materials: White paper, pencil and color marker

Method:
1. Sketch a picture on a piece of white paper
2. Let your kid dot the picture according to the lines to create pattern
3. Use different colors to create a better picture effect

Finger painting

Kids love to get messy with their little fingers.
It is fun to make finger tip pictures, and they make personalized cards.

Materials:
Ink pad or paint, white paper, crayons or colored pencils

Method:
1. Draw a theme for your picture. It can be a tree, an animal or anything
2. Firmly press finger your tip onto an ink pad or paint
3. Press finger onto the paper to create prints onto the picture

Dot Art

Found this idea online today. Just love it as it is so simple to do for the little ones and yet able to keep the little one busy

Materials: Pencil, paper, paint and cotton buds

Method:
1. Sketch a simple picture on the paper
2. Dip the cotton bud into the paint
3. Dot on the lines (try using a few colors)

Potato stamp art

Ever worry about having to engrave those potatoes for your kid's art and craft? I got this fantastic idea from Kidley's blog. Instead of worrying about getting the perfect shapes, using the cookie cutters is one of the best way. After you got the shape, it is up to you to engrave the cut out shapes for more designs and textures.

Handprint: Yellow bee

Found this simple craft idea from www.ActivityVillage.co.uk while I was surfing online and thought it would be great to use it for our playgroup.

Materials: Construction paper, yellow, black and white paint

Method:
1. Print a single yellow handprint with fingers (close together) in the middle of the paper
2. Leave to dry.
3. Use the side of the hand to print black lines down the handprint for the bee’s stripes.
4. Again using another side of the hand, add a white line to the bottom of the bee for its sting.
5. Make the wings by using white paint on the side of the hand and moving the hand in a fan shape across the paper with fingers pointing to the bee’s back.

Scrap Art

An extremely simple craft which does not need much preparation.

Materials:
some color papers, recycle paper, carton strips, scraps (or any shapes), string, and glue.

Method:
1. Cut A4 paper into half.
2. Let the child glue bits of scrap onto the paper (making a picture or randomly)
3. Glue the carton strips to four corners to create a frame effect.

Handprint: Spotty Giraffe

Love this idea from www.ActivityVillage.co.uk. Saw this while I was surfing online and thought it would be great to use it for our playgroup.

Material: Construction paper, yellow and brown paint

Method:
1. Print a single yellow hand print.
2. The palm forms the body.
3. The fingers the legs and the thumb forms the tail.
4. Use the side of the hand to print the neck and add a fingerprint for the head.
5. Once dry use brown fingerprints to make the giraffe’s spots, and the short little finger for the end of the tail.

Handprint: Friendly Lion

This is another finger print craft from www.ActivityVillage.co.uk . Not only I find it easy for our little kids to do, it is very fun letting your kid to play with the paint too. Explore their site for more craft ideas.

Materials: Construction paper, orange and yellow paint, pen.

Method:
1. Keep fingers together, print a circle of orange handprints with palms to formthe centre of the circle. This is to make the lion’s mane.
2. Once dry, print a yellow handprint with fingers together in the centre of the circle, for the lion’s face.
3. Draw the lion’s eyes, whiskers and mouth only once the paint is dry.

Straw blown art

Materials: 2 straws, a piece of white paper, some paints and cut out heart shapes

Methods:
1. Squirt some paints on a piece a of white paper.
2. With a straw each for yourself and your kid, blow the paints.
3. Glue some hearts to the art

Bubble wrap art

Materials: Bubble wrap(small bubbles preferably), light blue paint, construction paper, cotton balls for clouds, Optional:other colored paints for adding scenery

Method:
1. Spread out your bubble wrap with slightly over half of the bubbles popped.
2. Cover the bubbles with a thin coat of light blue paint.
3. Place it on a piece of white paper and rub gently.
4. Remove paper and let dry. Spread some cotton balls out a bit and glue on paper for clouds.

Draw half face

Got this fantastic tip from Craft Ideas.

Find an easy cute face picture or cartoon from your child's magazine. Fold this picture lengthwise in half so that you have only a half a face meaning 1 eye, 1/2 nose and 1/2 mouth. Cut along the face into half and glue one it on a piece of drawing paper. Now get your child to draw the other half on the paper. This is good drawing practice and helps children learn about face proportions.

Leaf tracing

We used to do this tracing when we were young, with coins or leaves.

Materials: different shapes of leaves, paper and crayons


Method:
1. Find some different shapes of leaves.
2. Put the leaf on a flat surface
3. Put the white paper on top of the leaf
4. Color the paper to trace out the texture of the leaves with crayon
5. Repeat same for some other different leaves.

Left stamps

A touch with the nature. While strolling in the park with the kids, get them to pluck some nice leaves from the tree for this art.

Materials: Leafs, paint, white board

Method:
1. Best pressed the leafs between pages of heavy books overnight
2. Color underside of leafs (which has veins and lines)
3. Press the leaf to the white paper to create motifs.

Fun with Colors

A great and cheap way to keep your little one busy.

Materials:
print outs of some coloring page (download here), color pensils, crayons, water color, paper

Coloring method:
1. Just color them with color pencils or crayons or

2. To add a twist to fun painting, first outline the pictures with some crayons. Then paint over the pictures with diluted paint. Refer to Crayon Art done by Qiqi.

Crayon art

Materials: Colouring print outs or any blank paper, crayon and water colour
*Suitable for kids 2 years+

Steps:


1. Firstly, line picture with crayons (I use the print out colouring pictures from internet). U can line them for your kid if she is too young to follow the lines.

2. Just choose one or two water colour, dilute them with lots of water to let your kid paint onto the drawing.
3. Isn't this a beautiful piece? With the crayon trick, even a 2 year old can produce such a great piece !
